The Invisible Girl: a Scot Family Short

Exclusively for mailing list subscribers, The Invisible Girl is a short and sweet paranormal romance between Cassie's sister, Juliana Scot, and Amanda Lee, who you might recall was once held hostage by the Scot family. The two will have to work together to stop a dangerous flu strain that is making magical powers misfire.

Though all of my subscribers are welcome to download and read this story, I recommend it to those who have read at least the first four books in the Cassie Scot series. If you're new to my list and my work -- welcome! I am offering the first full-length Cassie Scot novel for free right now, and that's a great place to start.

Writer's Corner

This past month has largely seen me handling tasks I collectively call "the business of writing" -- in this case pitching a new book concept in hopes of seeking new representation. This is not my favorite part of writing. I'm not sure it's anyone's favorite part of writing! But every good job comes with tasks you want to do and tasks you have to do.

My main creative outlet this month was honestly writing The Invisible Girl, which I hope you enjoy. It was a stretch for me in two ways. First, I don't write a lot of short story and feel a bit awkward with the form. This is something I need to remedy if for no other reason, I would love to be able to write a handful of short stories I can gift to my newletter subscribers in between novels. So we'll see how that goes. No promises!

The other reason The Invisible Girl was a bit of a stretch is that it's my first f/f romance. Why did I choose a female love interest for Juliana? I don't know exactly. I will say that for whatever reason, this possibility whispered in the back of my mind almost from the start. And after I finished The Seer's Fate, it was Juliana who wanted her story told next. I do think we live in a time where it's important to accept that love doesn't look the same for everyone, but by no means did I write this story for preachy or political reasons. If anything, it had more to do with following through on the fallout of the family feud that tore the town of Eagle Rock apart -- Cassie was at the center of that, but by no means the only person impacted.

More FREE Books!

I am once again participating in a handful of group giveaways with other authors whose work you might enjoy. Or at least, you can check out some of their work for free and find out!

Witchy Book Giveaway was an obvious choice for me this month. Cassie's theme song has always been "Witchy Woman" by the Eagles -- at least in my head.

Daring Damsels and Warrior Women is another great fit for Cassie, even if she wouldn't buy into the notion (at first). I love stories featuring strong female heroines of all stripes, and hope you do too!

Romantic Fantasy Giveaway is probably self-explanatory. These books will either be romance or, like Cassie Scot, have a strong romantic subplot

February Paranormal Romance is your chance to pick up The Seer's Fate -- a Scot Family Novella that should more or less stand alone.

Teens in Fantastic Worlds features both young heroes/heroines and straight-up YA. At 21, and still in need of some growing up, Cassie Scot isn't quite YA, but it definitely exists in that gray area.

Christine
