Happy New Year!

January always feels like a chance to reset. It's not so much about resolutions -- I *might* have already broken most of mine -- as it is about fresh beginnings.

One of the reasons I think my resolutions often fail is because they're made in judgment. I'm not good enough the way I am, so I need to start tweaking things. Eat less. Write more. Keep the house cleaner.

So this year, I plan to work on self-acceptance. It's not a resolution, it's a journey. One I continue to process through the stories I write, such as the Cassie Scot Books.

Writer's Corner

I am excited to report that I have just put the finishing touches on Playing God, my latest contemporary fantasy novel featuring an entirely new world and cast of characters. (In other words, it isn't related to anything I've written or published so far.) Those of you who follow my FB page probably know that I feel like this is the best thing I've ever written. It is loosely inspired by the tale of Anastasia, but with an interdimensional twist.

The worst thing about this book is...it won't be available to my readers right away. I am exploring new publishing options right now, which means this one may be a while. I do hope to have something new for readers this year, but I'm afraid I am not the fastest writer in the world. I'm not the slowest, either, but two novels in a year is impressive in my world. One is typical. Which is why I would like to explore more novellas and short stories in the coming months. All short stories and novellas will initially be released as mailing list exclusives, so stay tuned.

Tentative Blurb for Playing God:

Marissa and her twin brother share unique, inexplicable abilities, but their different ways of dealing with them long ago shattered their bond. While Luke travels the country healing supplicants and proclaiming himself a god, Marissa hides her own empathic sense, focusing on living a normal life with her daughter and putting her brother’s betrayal behind her.

Her normal life implodes when her daughter shows signs of the same strange abilities, and Marissa has no choice but to contact Luke – a move that attracts the attention of not only the world, but of a mysterious man who knows more about their origins than they do and an assassin determined to eliminate them both. In order to survive the challenges ahead, Luke and Marissa will have to work together. But when long-buried secrets emerge, Marissa starts to question whether she really understands her own past – or the real source of the danger that threatens her future.
