The Immortality Virus RErelease

Last week, my wonderful publisher at Twilight Times Books returned the rights to The Immortality Virus. This book, the second I ever published, first came out in 2011, and for reasons I'm not sure I can properly explain, still manages to be the only science fiction novel credit to my name. (Give me time; I'm still working!)

Yesterday, I published the book as an Amazon exclusive. I chose exclusivity largely to enroll it in KDP Select and make it available through Kindle Unlimited. Which means, if you're a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, you can read it for free!

This is a rerelease, NOT a revision. While I did do some light copyediting (and found a few things -- it is early work), the story is precisely the same. So if you've already got a copy, there's no need to buy it again. The only substantial change to this book is the cover, created by BZN studio designs. I'm thrilled with the book's new look, and would highly recommend the company.

If you haven't ever bought the book, let me try to tempt you with a blurb:

In the mid-21st century, the human race stopped aging. Those who know why aren’t talking, and the few who are brave enough to ask questions tend to disappear. To an elite few, The Change means long life and health, but to the ever-increasing masses, it means starvation, desperation, and violence.

Four centuries later, Grace Harper, blacklisted private eye, sets off on a mission to find the man responsible for it all and solicit his help to undo The Change—if he’s still alive. To complicate matters, Grace’s employer is suspected of murdering his father, and when the police learn of their connection, they give her a choice—help them find the evidence they need to convict Matthew Stanton, or die. But if they discover Grace’s true mission, they won’t hesitate to kill her in order to preserve their shot at immortality.

The Immortality Virus won the 2012 EPIC ebook award for Science Fiction and the 2011 Global ebook award for Science Fiction.

You can buy the kindle version exclusively on Amazon

A print on demand paperback is coming soon -- I'm just waiting for a proof copy to make sure it looks all right.

Featured Review

"The conversations are witty and the action is thrilling. You’ll be on the edge of your seat until the final page." — Portland Book Review

Why Reclaim My Rights?

Let me start by saying that I didn't just get the rights back on The Immortality Virus. I started there, sort of as a test case, but I'll be getting back the rights on all my Cassie Scot books later this year, too. It was a tough call to make! There are real advantages to being backed by a publisher, most especially the ease of wide distribution. But increasingly, I want to be in full control of my own backlog. I want to do things as simple as putting direct links to the next book in the series at the end of the previous book in the series to help with series read-through. And as I said above, I want to see if Kindle Unlimited will get me any new traffic.

The biggest downside to this choice is that I lose all my Amazon reviews. They do not associate the old title with the new title, so at this moment, The Immortality Virus looks a little naked. In fact, if you happen to have put up a Goodreads review of the book and have a minute, I'd be extremely grateful were you to copy and paste it over to the new Amazon listing. And generally, if you have the chance to leave a review of any of my books, you have my profound thanks.

Expect more news in the coming months!

Best,

Christine
