Fantastic Schools and Where to Find Them
I’m excited to announce that one of my short stories has been accepted into an upcoming anthology featuring untold stories from magic schools. My contribution is called “Too Good to be True” and it tells the story of a young woman living on the streets who is offered a job at a magic school – as a cafeteria worker.
The tentative release date for this anthology is August, but I’ll definitely keep you posted as I know publication dates can slip. We’ll know for certain when we get cover art. Author’s Corner
“Too Good to be True” was one of a handful of short stories I wrote early in 2020 as part of my plan to rest and reset before getting back into novel writing. I’ll confess that the “Year of the Short Story” (as I named it) lasted less than two months before I started tackling my novel outline in earnest. Short stories can definitely be fun, and I’d like to work them into my writing rotation more often, but I don’t think I can handle nothing but short stories for any significant length of time!
I’ve spent much of my COVID isolation working on a thorough outline of Night School in the hopes that my next draft of this novel will be my last. But I haven’t started, and I don’t think I’m going to (even though a part of me is itching to write). Normally, my house is my own during the day – my husband is at work and my kids are at school. Now, my house is a bit of a zoo and I’m home schooling my kids! So in what little time I have for writing, I’m working on project planning. Or, to put it another way, I started a second novel outline in the hopes that when I have real time to sit down and write again, I can move quickly from Night School to another novel.
